From the Makers of MST3K

This weekend my boyfriend and I noticed that Netflix had graciously added many many Mystery Science Theatre 3000dvds to the instant queue, and I remembered that the makers of MST3K also had a website, where you can download tracks to movies you already own. We tried it out and it is well worth it! We tried it on Empire Strikes Back and Iron Man. We were worried it might ruin Empire for us, but it was hilarious! here's what you need:

1.Extra speakers- we took computer speakers and plugged it into our ipod dock, made for some awesome surround sound. You just need a way to listen to two audio tracks at the same time (Computer/TV/etc)
2. .99-3.99 for the riff track. About the same cost as a normal movie rental, so if you already own a movie on the list, it's obviously a better deal.
3. The movie.

They make it very easy for you to keep track of where the audio should line up as well- one of the bots chimes in and says a line from the movie the exact moment the character says it. If one of them is a little off, you just pause the movie or the track for a second. I wish
they did that with Dark Side, hah!

Go try it out, if you like MST3K you won't be disappointed!

Preview of Harry Potter's Wizarding World

Artists have created concept pieces for what the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will look like when it opens in 2010 at Islands of Adventure. I caught the development early on last May, and I was already balls-to-the-wall excited. As it's coming to fruition, I still am, but I wish there were more rides. I wish there was an entire Diagon Alley, instead of gift shops masquerading as "attractions". Gift shops are not attractions. I'm sure it will look amazing though.
Here's a preview:

Recent sketches

Sometimes (often) I forget to post things I've drawn. This is a sketchbook, I should learn to use it.

Study from a photo. I want to try replicating this in different times of day.

Casshern color study- saturated darks and desaturated lights.

I was practicing distance with this one, then I lost like an hour's work on it and gave up. Mostly because it suffers from lack of imagination- I need to study architecture more.

I tried a red underpainting, but I think it was too bright, this came out muddy and gross and boring.

I'm mostly trying colour schemes, but it always comes out crap.

Amanda Palmer Has No Problems Taking Your Money

Amanda Palmer, the lead singer/pianist/etc of the Dresden Dolls, gives a blunt, but truthful argument about making money as artists in today's world.

Interesting inspiration

Just found this guy today,Kazuki Takamatsu. He calls it Distantfeerism, and its vectorized depth maps. The concepts of the pieces are interesting, bizarre, and I really dig it. For some reason the simplicity of the subjects really works with the ideas.

Go check him out!

Newborn Final

I really thought I put this up here, but I guess not. Here's the final image for the newborn contest, which was due over 3 weeks ago and we've still heard nothing. I love all that conceptart.org offers, but their communication sucks.

Copyright Case :(

It's not looking good. Spoke with a lawyer today, who was nice, albeit blunt.

NOW EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ALL ARTISTS!

Apparently, even though art teachers and copyright websites will tell you that you own
your work the day it was created, a lawyer doesn't give a shit. If you haven't sent that art to the copyright office and gotten an actual copyright for it, YOU DONT OWN YOUR WORK. You have no right to damages or lawyer fees from your case.

Also, he said that their argument could easily be that my wings are based on something real, so its not copyrightable at all. Thats right, stylized wings are not copyrightable. He also said if it's not an EXACT copy I lose as well.

These are the kinds of rights artists are granted? Whats the point? Why do I even put my art on here? Now I have to send a CD of all my work to washington and pay $35 a piece to make sure this never happens again? WHY WEREN'T WE GIVEN THIS INFORMATION IN SCHOOL! Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to go back and put a watermark on all my work now. I dont know what else to do, nothing matters. Deviantart's little copyright symbol means nada.

Depressed.

NewBorn Challenge

So I've been participating in the new Conceptart.org challenge. It's a work in progress, not due until the end of July- I've been having some trouble with the inside of the womb, the values aren't what I want. If you'd like to follow on CA.org, here's the thread.

New Zazzle Store!

So I've finally decided to make a store on Zazzle with some posters! Right now thats all it is, some of my favorite/popular posters. If anyone actually desires shoes, a mug or anything else, I can always cater to your whims!
And I really should update with some of my new work....soon!

Well Hot Damn

I haven't been updating, silly me.
From top to bottom:
A little shanty town, I was practicing saturation in shadow and light. As always, working on color, but I can't seem to move away from complementary or tertiary palettes and its getting annoying.

A COW entry for Conceptart.org. A breath of life dragon. No one liked it.

Some rendering practice, face practice, haven't ever really painted in a blue palette so that was nice. Face from reference.

I dont know about my actual painting skill, but I think I'm getting better because I'm able to produce these faster. So hopefully spending more time on things will make them even better.

Next project: Avatar!

Steampunk Challenge Final Image: Sirens

It had seemed that a simple search for missing ships would reveal such a fascinating thing. Their music is hollow, lifeless, yet intriguing. He must know more. What's behind those doors must be worth so much more than the dead ships below.

No, I did not finish my image in time for the challenge. A whole day late, but I think the image needed the time. It was a labor of love and hate, probably over 100 hours, and I think its time to say el fin.

Siren

Something I've been doing for a couple days, part of a concept for the CGTalk challenge "Steampunk Myths and Legends". Crits appreciated!
